PERFECT: THE YOGI BERRA STORY
The perfect game. The perfect catcher. The story America never knew.
Logline
From his humble beginnings in St. Louis to the battlefields of World War II and baseball’s greatest dynasty, Yogi Berra’s remarkable journey culminates behind home plate during the only perfect game in World Series history.
The Story
Perfect chronicles Yogi Berra’s extraordinary rise from 1939 through 1956—a defining era in baseball and American history.
Undersized, underestimated and unlike anyone the game had seen, Yogi rose from a working-class immigrant neighborhood to serve his country during World War II and become the heart of the New York Yankees.
His journey builds toward Game 5 of the 1956 World Series: the Yankees against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
On one side were Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella and Pee Wee Reese. On the other were Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin, Casey Stengel—and Yogi Berra.
As Don Larsen pursued perfection from the mound, Yogi became the strategist, leader and steady presence behind the plate. Twenty-seven batters later, Larsen had delivered the only perfect game in World Series history. The final image—Yogi leaping into Larsen’s arms—became one of baseball’s most enduring moments.
Framed by the legendary voices of Vin Scully and Mel Allen, Perfect is more than a baseball film. It is the story of an American original, the growth of the national pastime and one unforgettable afternoon when preparation, courage and destiny came together.
The perfect game. The perfect story.
